When Climate Change and Overexploitation Meet in Volcanic Lakes: The Lesson from Lake Bracciano, Rome’s Strategic Reservoir

چکیده
Lakes worldwide have been strongly affected by several types of human-caused alteration, including changes in water level. This also affects deep lakes, volcanic ones. Volcanic lakes the Mediterranean area are great importance for local economy, but human activities can threaten their rich biodiversity. As a European biodiversity hotspot and habitat endemic species, Lake Bracciano (Central Italy) is an ecosystem primary conservation interest threatened sharply falling levels, particularly since 2017. It plays key role wellbeing providing important services drinking water, fisheries various recreational opportunities. Although lake has historically considered to enjoy good ecological status, environmental problems, often amplified level changes, arisen during last two decades. Given this recent rapid evolution, be example valuable at risk as result increasing anthropogenic pressures. The aim review examine that 20 years, considerably reducing its capacity provide services, existing potential threats order better inform management such resources.

متن کاملEffects of Climate Change on Lakes
Lake ecosystems are vital resources for aquatic wildlife and human needs, and any alteration of their environmental quality and water renewal rates has wide-ranging ecological and societal implications. The increasing accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as a result of human activities has begun to affect the structure, functioning, and stability of lake ecosystems throughout the ...
متن کاملLakes as sentinels of climate change.
While there is a general sense that lakes can act as sentinels of climate change, their efficacy has not been thoroughly analyzed. We identified the key response variables within a lake that act as indicators of the effects of climate change on both the lake and the catchment. These variables reflect a wide range of physical, chemical, and biological responses to climate. However, the efficacy ...
متن کاملConfronting Climate Change in the Great Lakes Region
Many concerns over global change can be linked to the health and well-being of humans. Our welfare is intimately tied to that of our environment, resource base, and common home. Health effects can be traced from many factors, including changes in water resources, forests, agricultural production, atmosphere, and most other domains that will be affected by climate change. However, here we focus ...
متن کاملCompeting invaders: Performance of two Anguillicola species in Lake Bracciano
Anguillicola crassus is one of the most successful parasitic invasive species as it has spread from its original habitat in East Asia throughout the world and has acquired five new eel host species in the course of its invasion within the last three decades. Records from an Italian lake indicate that this species has even displaced an established population of its close relative A. novaezelandi...
